Surgery Room

Surgical Room

The surgical suite in a veterinary hospital is a specialized environment where surgical procedures are performed on animals. This room is designed to be a sterile and controlled area to prevent infections and complications during and after surgeries. Proper protocols include thorough cleaning and disinfection of the room and surgical instruments, wearing sterile gowns, gloves, and masks by all personnel, and using sterilized drapes and equipment. Following strict guidelines is crucial because it minimizes the risk of introducing pathogens into the surgical site, ensuring the safety and well-being of the animal patients. Maintaining sterility helps in preventing postoperative infections, promoting faster recovery, and improving overall surgical outcomes.

Patient Monitoring

These machines help the vet team make sure the pet is safe during surgery. They check the pet’s heart, breathing, and oxygen levels.

  • ECG Machine: Watches the pet’s heartbeat.
  • Pulse Oximeter: Tells how much oxygen is in the pet’s blood.
  • Capnograph: Checks how well the pet is breathing out carbon dioxide.

The veterinary technician uses these tools and takes the pet’s TPR (Temperature, Pulse, and Breathing) every 5 minutes to keep the pet safe and comfortable.

Anesthesia Machine

(Pronounced: an-uhs-THEE-zhuh)

This machine helps pets stay asleep and feel no pain during surgery. It mixes a special gas medicine called isoflurane with oxygen. When the pet breathes it in, they stay in a deep, safe sleep. Veterinary technicians check the machine before every surgery and must maintain it properly to make sure it works perfectly each time.
